Identifying the risks associated with your project doesn’t have to be an onerous project. Likely, you are seeing similar risks from project to project – especially within the same organization.
Use these six easy ways to help identify risks associated with your project:
- Gather together the stakeholders and other customers and team members and use brainstorming techniques to determine risks to the project.
- Look at the project scope. Is there a significant amount that this project must deliver? Is it a complex project?
- Compare this project to past projects. Have similar projects been done before or is this project very unique to the company?
- Look at your project resources. Do you have the right resources (and are the right resources available)?
- What is the project’s impact on the business? Is it a strategic project that could have a negative impact if it is not successful?
- What is the timeline and budget for the project? Is it reasonable given the scope, resources and the complexity of the project?
Try these techniques to improve how you identify risks to your projects. You’ll find you’ll develop a much more comprehensive list of risks.
