I read an article recently in Business on Main, 7 Bad Business Habits to Break this Year, and it got me thinking about what business habits I have that have been of value to me.
Let me share a few things that have been successful for me and hopefully you’ll walk away with a nugget or two you can use. This list is in addition to the list of bad habits (that must be changed to good ones for you to have a successful business) in the article. These “habits” are not just good for your business, but great for establishing relationships with your clients.
- Reaching out to clients. On at least a quarterly basis reach out to clients you haven’t spoken with in a while to catch up with them and keep in touch.
- Thank you notes. I send “thank you” notes to prospective clients who have agreed to meet with me. Hand-written.
- Block off time in the calendar. I block off time in my calendar when I’m especially busy in order to ensure there is time set aside for planning and strategic thinking.
- Share knowledge. I help clients think through what would be best for their businesses by sharing knowledge with them. This is not chargeable time.
What about you? What are some of your “best practices” for working with clients? What have you found to be of value to your clients and a differentiator for your business? Please share with others in the Comments field below.
Oh….and…for those who are wondering…I’m pleased to say I don’t have any of the bad habits on the list exactly…but could certainly use to improve on bad business habit no. 3: skimping on sleep and specifically taking a bit more time out in the day for exercise!
