Being an entrepreneur does not come easily. It takes a certain person to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are innovative; looking for new ways of doing something. Innovative doesn’t necessarily mean they create something new from scratch; rather they may offer up a better way of providing a service or an improvement in a product to better meet consumer needs. They are consistently looking for better ways to get things done.
Certainly you must be a risk taker. Being an entrepreneur means you are willing to take risks – calculated risks but risks all the same. Entrepreneurs are social people – they are interested in what others are doing around them and learning from them. A recent article in Business on Main, Top 3 Traits of the World’s Best Entrepreneurs, notes that the best entrepreneurs are:
- Idealistic
- Great teammates
- Characters with character
I’d add to that list – they are also:
- Risk takers – willing to take calculated risks to move forward with an idea.
- Flexible/adaptable – able to make changes when their idea heads in the wrong direction or based on input from others; able to adapt to new situations that arise.
- Decision makers – able to make decisions rapidly with the information they have in an environment that is full of uncertainty; they don’t get hung up on needing consistently more information to make a decision.
- OK about failing – it happens to every entrepreneur! However, they learn from their failures.
