Preferably before the project kicks off!
Change initiatives require significant preparation before actually moving forward with starting the initiative. During this preparation time, the following should be done within the organization:
- Assess the readiness of employees for the change.
- Develop a change management plan for how change will be managed and employees engaged throughout the organization in order to increase adoption.
- Determine resource needs for the initiative with a special consideration as to how individuals might work on the initiative as well as on their “day job.”
- Develop a detailed communication plan for communicating about the change initiative – from before launch of the initiative through to implementation and beyond.
All of this should be done prior to starting the change initiative project. Change initiatives require significant engagement of employees throughout the organization. This is not an easy process and the commitment and time needed to be successful here should not be minimalized.
